By Bus
The best way to link to Loulé. The bus station in Loulé is located in Rua Nossa Senhora de Fátima, approximately 250 metres north of the city centre. From Loulé, it is possible to catch buses to and from Faro (every 30 minutes), Albufeira, Lagos, Portimão and Lisbon. There are also connections to the coast (Quarteira) every hour.
In Faro, the main bus station is the EVA terminal where there are daily connections (normal and express) to and from Lisbon, Porto, Tavira, Albufeira, Vila Real de Santo António, Lagos and Seville. There are also the Caima/Renex operators (opposite the bus station) that have daily express connections to Lisbon, Porto and Braga.
By train
Faro and Loulé have various daily rapid connections to all cities in the Algarve. There are four daily trains from and to Lisbon: two Inter-Regional services and two Inter-city services. Once a week, the 'blue train' travels to Porto. The 'blue train' allows the transportation of vehicles and takes around 9 hours to reach Porto, passing through Beja, Santarém and Coimbra. In May, a new electric train service will begin operation, which will provide even faster connections to Lisbon and Porto.
Loulé/Quarteira station is located 5 km south of the city. To travel from Loulé to the station and vice-versa, you need to catch the bus that goes from Quarteira to Loulé
By road
Faro and Loulé are served by the so-called 'Via do Infante' A22-IP1 that connects Lagos, in the west, to the Spanish border at Vila Real de Santo António in the east. The national highway EN125 also crosses the Algarve but it is usually fairly congested.
From both the EN 125 and the Via do Infante it is possible to connect with the A2-IP1, the motorway to Lisbon, as well as to the network of European motorways, via Huelva-Seville.
To go from Loulé to Faro, the EN 125-4 is another possibility.
From both the N 125 and the Via do Infante it is possible to connect to the A2-IP1, the motorway that connects the Algarve to Lisbon and the north of Portugal.
